1 Then Job answered and said, ☆ Et Job répondit et dit : And Job answered and said, Respondió Job, y dijo:
2 I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God? En vérité, je sais qu'il en est ainsi. Mais comment l'homme sera-t-il juste devant ∗Dieu ? Of a truth I know it is so; but how can man be just with *God? Ciertamente yo sé que es así;
¿Y cómo se justificará el hombre con Dios?
3 If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand. S'il se plaît à contester avec lui, il ne lui répondra pas sur un point entre mille. If he shall choose to strive with him, he cannot answer him one thing of a thousand. Si quisiere contender con él,
No le podrá responder a una cosa entre mil.
4 He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered? Il est sage de cœur et puissant en force : qui s'est endurci contre lui et a prospéré ? He is wise in heart and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and had peace? Él es sabio de corazón, y poderoso en fuerzas;

Y hace temblar sus columnas;

11 Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not. ✱ Voici, il passe près de moi, et je ne [le] vois pas ; et il passe à côté [de moi], et je ne l'aperçois pas. Pasará, y no lo entenderé.
12 Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou? Voici, il ravit ; qui l'en détournera ? Qui lui dira : Que fais-tu ? Behold, he taketh away: who will hinder him? Who will say unto him, What doest thou? He aquí, arrebatará; ¿quién le hará restituir?
¿Quién le dirá: Qué haces?
13 If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him. †Dieu ne retire pas sa colère ; sous lui fléchissent les orgueilleux qui prêtent secoursd. +God withdraweth not his anger; the proud helpers stoop under him: Dios no volverá atrás su ira,
Y debajo de él se abaten los que ayudan a los soberbios.
14 How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him? Combien moins lui répondrais-je, moi, [et] choisirais-je mes paroles avec lui ! How much less shall I answer him, choose out my words to strive with him? ¿Cuánto menos le responderé yo,

15 Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge. Si j'étais juste, je ne lui répondrais pas, je demanderais grâce à mon juge. Antes habría de rogar a mi juez.
16 If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice. Si je criais, et qu'il me répondît, je ne croirais pas qu'il eût prêté l'oreille à ma voix, — If I had called, and he had answered me, I would not believe that he hearkened to my voice, -- Si yo le invocara, y él me respondiese,
Aún no creeré que haya escuchado mi voz.
17 For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause. Lui qui m'écrase dans une tempête, et qui multiplie mes blessures sans cause. He, who crusheth me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause. Porque me ha quebrantado con tempestad,
Y ha aumentado mis heridas sin causa.
18 He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness. Il ne me permet pas de reprendre haleine ; car il me rassasie d'amertumes. He suffereth me not to take my breath, for he filleth me with bitternesses. No me ha concedido que tome aliento,
Sino que me ha llenado de amarguras.
19 If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead? S'agit-il de force, voici, il est fort ; s'agit-il de jugement : Qui m'assignera ? Be it a question of strength, lo, he is strong; and be it of judgment, who will set me a time? Si habláremos de su potencia, por cierto es fuerte;
Si de juicio, ¿quién me emplazará?
20 If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse. Si je me justifiais, ma bouche me condamnerait ; si j'étais parfait, il me montrerait pervers. If I justified myself, mine own mouth would condemn me; were I perfect, he would prove me perverse. Si yo me justificare, me condenaría mi boca;
Si me dijere perfecto, esto me haría inicuo.
21 Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life. Si j'étais parfait, je méconnaîtrais mon âme, je mépriserais ma vie. Were I perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life. Si fuese íntegro, no haría caso de mí mismo;
Despreciaría mi vida.
22 This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked. ✱ Tout revient au même ; c'est pourquoi j'ai dit : Il consume le parfait et le méchant. It is all one; therefore I said, he destroyeth the perfect and the wicked. Una cosa resta que yo diga:
Al perfecto y al impío él los consume.
23 If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent. Si le fléau donne subitement la mort, il se rit de l'épreuve de l'innocent. If the scourge kill suddenly, he mocketh at the trial of the innocent. Si azote mata de repente,
Se ríe del sufrimiento de los inocentes.
24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he? La terre est livrée en la main du méchant : il couvre la face de sese juges. S'il n'en est pas ainsi, qui est-ce donc ? The earth is given over into the hand of the wicked man ; he covereth the faces of its judges. If not, who then is it? La tierra es entregada en manos de los impíos,
Y él cubre el rostro de sus jueces.
Si no es él, ¿quién es? ¿Dónde está?
25 Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good. Mes jours s'en vont plus vite qu'un coureur ; ils fuient, ils ne voient pas ce qui est bon ; And my days are swifter than a runner: they flee away, they see no good. Mis días han sido más ligeros que un correo;
Huyeron, y no vieron el bien.
26 They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey. Ils passent rapides comme les barques de jonc, comme un aigle qui fond sur sa proie. They pass by like skiffs of reed; as an eagle that swoops upon the prey. Pasaron cual naves veloces;
Como el águila que se arroja sobre la presa.
27 If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself: ✱ Si je dis : J'oublierai ma plainte, je renoncerai à mon visage [morne] et je serai joyeux, If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my sad countenance, and brighten up, Si yo dijere: Olvidaré mi queja,
Dejaré mi triste semblante, y me esforzaré,
28 I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent. Je suis épouvanté de tous mes tourments ; je sais que tu ne me tiendras pas pour innocent. I am afraid of all my sorrows; I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent. Me turban todos mis dolores;
Sé que no me tendrás por inocente.
29 If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain? Soit, je suis méchant : pourquoi me fatigué-je ainsi en vain ? Be it that I am wicked, why then do I labour in vain? Yo soy impío;
¿Para qué trabajaré en vano?
30 If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean; Si je me lave avec de l'eau de neige, et que je nettoie mes mains dans la puretéf, If I washed myself with snow-water, and cleansed my hands in purity, Aunque me lave con aguas de nieve,
Y limpie mis manos con la limpieza misma,
31 Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me. Alors tu me plongeras dans un fossé, et mes vêtements m'auront en horreur. Then wouldest thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes would abhor me. Aún me hundirás en el hoyo,
Y mis propios vestidos me abominarán.
32 For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment. Car il n'est pas homme, comme moi, pour que je lui réponde, pour que nous allions ensemble en jugement. For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him; that we should come together in judgment. Porque no es hombre como yo, para que yo le responda,
Y vengamos juntamente a juicio.
33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both. Il n'y a pas entre nous un arbitreg qui mettrait sa main sur nous deux. There is not an umpire between us, who should lay his hand upon us both. No hay entre nosotros árbitro
Que ponga su mano sobre nosotros dos.
34 Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me: Qu'il retire sa verge de dessus moi, et que sa terreur ne me trouble pas ; Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his terror make me afraid, Quite de sobre mí su vara,
Y su terror no me espante.
35 Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me. Alors je parlerai et je ne le craindrai pas ; mais il n'en est pas ainsi de moi. Then I will speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me. Entonces hablaré, y no le temeré;
Porque en este estado no estoy en mí.
