1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, ☆ Et Éliphaz, le Thémanite, répondit et dit : And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, Respondió Elifaz temanita, y dijo:
2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself? L'homme peut-il être de quelque profit à ∗Dieu ? C'est bien à lui-même que l'homme intelligent profitera. Can a man be profitable to *God? surely it is unto himself that the wise man is profitable. ¿Traerá el hombre provecho a Dios?
Al contrario, para sí mismo es provechoso el hombre sabio.
3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect? Est-ce un plaisir pour le Tout-puissant que tu sois juste, et un gain [pour lui] que tu sois parfait dans tes voies ? Is it any pleasure to the Almighty if thou art righteous? And is it gain to him that thou makest thy ways perfect? ¿Tiene contentamiento el Omnipotente en que tú seas justificado,
O provecho de que tú hagas perfectos tus caminos?a
4 Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment? Contestera-t-il avec toi parce qu'il te craint, [et] ira-t-il avec toi en jugement ? Will he reason with thee for fear of thee? Will he enter with thee into judgment? ¿Acaso te castiga,
O viene a juicio contigo, a causa de tu piedad?
5 Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite? Ta méchanceté n'est-elle pas grande, et tes iniquités ne sont-elles pas sans fin ? Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities without end? Por cierto tu malicia es grande,
Y tus maldades no tienen fin.
6 For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing. Car sans cause tu as pris un gage de ton frère, et tu as dépouillé de leurs vêtements ceux qui étaient nus. For thou hast taken a pledge of thy brother for nought, and stripped off the clothing of the naked. Porque sacaste prenda a tus hermanos sin causa,
Y despojaste de sus ropas a los desnudos.
7 Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry. Tu n'as pas donné d'eau à boire à celui qui se pâmait de soif, et tu as refusé du pain à celui qui avait faim ; Thou hast not given water to the fainting to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry. No diste de beber agua al cansado,

Y te turba espanto repentino;
11 Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee. Ou bien, ce sont des ténèbres, de sorte que tu ne vois pas, et le débordement des eaux te couvrea. Or darkness, that thou canst not see, and floods of waters cover thee. O tinieblas, para que no veas,
Y abundancia de agua te cubre.
12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are! †Dieu n'est-il pas aussi haut que les cieux ? Regarde le faîte des étoiles, combien elles sont élevées ! Is not +God in the height of the heavens? And behold the summit of the stars: how exalted are they! ¿No está Dios en la altura de los cielos?
Mira lo encumbrado de las estrellas, cuán elevadas están.
13 And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud? Et tu as dit : Qu'est-ce que ∗Dieu sait ? Jugera-t-il à travers l'obscurité des nuées ? And thou sayest, What doth *God know? will he judge through the dark cloud? ¿Y dirás tú: Qué sabe Dios?

Cuyo fundamento fue como un río derramado?
17 Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them? Qui disaient à ∗Dieu : Retire-toi de nous ! Et que nousc ferait le Tout-puissant ? — Who said unto *God, Depart from us! and what could the Almighty do to them? Decían a Dios: Apártate de nosotros.
¿Y qué les había hecho el Omnipotente?
18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me. Quoiqu'il eût rempli de biens leurs maisons. Mais que le conseil des méchants soit loin de moi ! Y el inocente los escarnecerá, diciendo:
20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth. Celui qui s'élevait contre nous n'a-t-il pas été retranché, et le feu n'a-t-il pas dévoré leur abondance ? Is not he who rose against us destroyed, and doth not the fire consume his residue? Fueron destruidos nuestros adversarios,
Y el fuego consumió lo que de ellos quedó.
21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. ✱ Réconcilie-toi avec Lui, je te prie, et sois en paix : ainsi le bonheur t'arrivera. Reconcile thyself now with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. Vuelve ahora en amistad con él, y tendrás paz;
Y por ello te vendrá bien.
22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart. Reçois l'instruction de sa bouche, et mets ses paroles dans ton cœur. Receive, I pray thee, instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart. Toma ahora la ley de su boca,

23 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles. Si tu retournes vers le Tout-puissant, tu seras rétablid. Si tu éloignes l'iniquité de ta tente, If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up. If thou remove unrighteousness far from thy tents, Si te volvieres al Omnipotente, serás edificado;
Alejarás de tu tienda la aflicción;
24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. Et que tu mettes l'or avec la poussière, et [l'or d']Ophir parmi les cailloux des torrents, And put the precious ore with the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the torrents, Tendrás más oro que tierra,

25 Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver. Le Tout-puissant sera ton or, et il sera pour toi de l'argent amassé. Then the Almighty will be thy precious ore, and silver heaped up unto thee; El Todopoderoso será tu defensa,
Y tendrás plata en abundancia.
26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God. Car alors tu trouveras tes délices dans le Tout-puissant, et vers †Dieu tu élèveras ta face ; Yea, then shalt thou delight thyself in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto +God: Porque entonces te deleitarás en el Omnipotente,
Y alzarás a Dios tu rostro.
27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows. Tu le supplieras et il t'entendra, et tu acquitteras tes vœux. Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he will hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows; Orarás a él, y él te oirá;
Y tú pagarás tus votos.
28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways. Tu décideras une chose, et elle te réussira, et la lumière resplendira sur tes voies. And thou shalt decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and light shall shine upon thy ways. Determinarás asimismo una cosa, y te será firme,
Y sobre tus caminos resplandecerá luz.
29 When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. Quand elles seront abaissées, alors tu diras : Lève-toi ! et celui qui a les yeux baissés, Il le sauvera ; When they are made low, then thou shalt say, Rise up! and he shall save him that is of downcast eyes. Cuando fueren abatidos, dirás tú: Enaltecimiento habrá;
Y Dios salvará al humilde de ojos.
30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands. Même Il délivrera celui qui n'est pas innocent : il sera délivré par la pureté de tes mains. Even him that is not innocent shall he deliver; yea, he shall be delivered by the pureness of thy hands. Él libertará al inocente,
Y por la limpieza de tus manos este será librado.
