3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived. Périsse le jour auquel je naquis, et la nuit qui dit : Un homme a été conçu ! Let the day perish in which I was born, and the night that said, There is a man child conceived. Perezca el día en que yo nací,
Y la noche en que se dijo: Varón es concebido.
4 Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it. Ce jour-là, qu'il soit ténèbres ; que †Dieua ne s'en enquière pas d'en haut, et que la lumière ne resplendisse pas sur lui ! That day--let it be darkness, let not +God care for it from above, neither let light shine upon it: Sea aquel día sombrío,
Y no cuide de él Dios desde arriba,
Ni claridad sobre él resplandezca.
5 Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it. Que les ténèbres et l'ombre de la mort le réclament ; que les nuées demeurent sur lui ; que ce qui assombrit les jours le terrifie ! Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it; let clouds dwell upon it; let darkeners of the day terrify it. Aféenlo tinieblas y sombra de muerte;
Repose sobre él nublado
Que lo haga horrible como día caliginoso.
6 As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months. Cette nuit-là, que l'obscurité s'en empare ; qu'elle ne se réjouisse point parmi les jours de l'année, qu'elle n'entre pas dans le nombre des mois ! That night--let gloom seize upon it; let it not rejoice among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months. Ocupe aquella noche la oscuridad;
No sea contada entre los días del año,
Ni venga en el número de los meses.
7 Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein. Voici, que cette nuit-là soit stérile ; que les cris de joie n'y entrent pas ! Behold, let that night be barren; let no joyful sound come therein; ¡Oh, que fuera aquella noche solitaria,
Que no viniera canción alguna en ella!
8 Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning. Que ceux qui maudissent le jour la maudissent, ceux qui sont prêts à réveiller Léviathan ! Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to rouse Leviathan; Maldíganla los que maldicen el día,
Los que se aprestan para despertar a Leviatán.
9 Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day: Que les étoiles de son crépuscule soient obscurcies ; qu'elle attende la lumière, et qu'il n'y en ait point, et qu'elle ne voie pas les cils de l'aurore ! Espere la luz, y no venga,
Ni vea los párpados de la mañana;
10 Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes. Parce qu'elle n'a pas fermé les portes du sein qui m'a portéb, et n'a pas caché la misère de devant mes yeux. Ni escondió de mis ojos la miseria.
11 Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly? ✱ Pourquoi ne suis-je pas mort dès la matrice, n'ai-je pas expiré quand je sortis du ventre ? Wherefore did I not die from the womb, --come forth from the belly and expire? ¿Por qué no morí yo en la matriz,
O expiré al salir del vientre?
12 Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck? Pourquoi les genoux m'ont-ils rencontré, et pourquoi les mamelles, pour les téter ? Why did the knees meet me? and wherefore the breasts, that I should suck? ¿Por qué me recibieron las rodillas?
¿Y a qué los pechos para que mamase?
13 For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest, Car maintenant je serais couché et je serais tranquille, je dormirais : alors j'aurais du repos, For now should I have lain down and been quiet; I should have slept: then had I been at rest, Pues ahora estaría yo muerto, y reposaría;
Dormiría, y entonces tendría descanso,
14 With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves; Avec les rois et les conseillers de la terre qui se bâtissent des solitudesc, With kings and counsellors of the earth, who build desolate places for themselves, Con los reyes y con los consejeros de la tierra,
Que reedifican para sí ruinas;
15 Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver: Ou avec les princes qui ont de l'or, qui ont rempli d'argent leurs maisons ; Or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver; O con los príncipes que poseían el oro,
Que llenaban de plata sus casas.
16 Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light. Ou, comme un avorton caché, je n'aurais pas été, — comme les petits enfants qui n'ont pas vu la lumière. Como los pequeñitos que nunca vieron la luz?
17 There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest. Là, les méchants ont cessé leur tumulte, et là ceux dont les forces sont épuisées par la fatigue sont en repos ; There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the wearied are at rest. Allí los impíos dejan de perturbar,
Y allí descansan los de agotadas fuerzas.
18 There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. Les prisonniers demeurent ensemble tranquilles, ils n'entendent pas la voix de l'exacteur ; The prisoners together are at ease; they hear not the voice of the taskmaster. Allí también reposan los cautivos;
No oyen la voz del capataz.
19 The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master. Là sont le petit et le grand, et le serviteur libéré de son maître. The small and great are there, and the bondman freed from his master. Allí están el chico y el grande,
Y el siervo libre de su señor.
20 Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul; ✱ Pourquoi la lumière est-elle donnée au misérable, et la vie à ceux qui ont l'amertume dans l'âme, Wherefore is light given to him that is in trouble, and life to those bitter of soul, ¿Por qué se da luz al trabajado,
Y vida a los de ánimo amargado,
21 Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures; À ceux qui attendent la mort, et elle n'est pas là, — qui la cherchent plus que des trésors cachés, Who long for death, and it cometh not, and dig for it more than for hidden treasures; Que esperan la muerte, y ella no llega,b
Aunque la buscan más que tesoros;
22 Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave? Qui se réjouissent jusqu'aux transports [et] sont dans l'allégresse, parce qu'ilsd ont trouvé le sépulcre, — Who rejoice even exultingly and are glad when they find the grave? -- Que se alegran sobremanera,
Y se gozan cuando hallan el sepulcro?
23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in? À l'homme de qui le chemin est caché et que †Dieu a enfermé de toutes parts ? To the man whose way is hidden, and whom +God hath hedged in? ¿Por qué se da vida al hombre que no sabe por dónde ha de ir,
Y a quien Dios ha encerrado?
24 For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters. Car mon gémissement vient avant mon pain, et mes rugissements débordent comme des eaux. For my sighing cometh before my bread, and my groanings are poured out like the waters. Pues antes que mi pan viene mi suspiro,
Y mis gemidos corren como aguas.
25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. Car j'ai eu une crainte, et elle est venue sur moi, et ce que j'appréhendais m'est arrivé. For I feared a fear, and it hath come upon me, and that which I dreaded hath come to me. Porque el temor que me espantaba me ha venido,
Y me ha acontecido lo que yo temía.
26 I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came. Je n'étais pas en sécurité, et je n'étais pas tranquille ni en repos, et le trouble est venu. I was not in safety, neither had I quietness, neither was I at rest, and trouble came. No he tenido paz, no me aseguré, ni estuve reposado;
No obstante, me vino turbación.
