In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it. |

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god. |
et le Seigneur livra en sa main Jehoïakim, roi de Juda, et une partie des ustensiles de la maison de Dieu, et il les fit apporter dans le pays de Shinhar, dans la maison de son dieu : il fit porter les ustensiles dans la maison du trésor de son dieu. |

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes; |
Et le roi dit à Ashpenaz, chef de ses eunuques, d'amener d'entre les fils d'Israël, et de la semence royale et d'entre les nobles, |

And the king spoke unto Ashpenaz the chief of his eunuchs, that he should bring of the children of Israel, both of the royal seed and of the nobles, |

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans. |
des jeunes gens en qui il n'y eût aucun défaut, et beaux de visage, et instruits en toute sagesse, et possédant des connaissances, et entendus en science, et qui fussent capables de se tenir dans le palais du roi, — et de leur enseigner les lettres et la langue des Chaldéens. |

And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king. |
Et le roi leur assigna, pour chaque jour, une portion fixe des mets délicats du roi et du vin qu'il buvait, pour les élever pendant trois ans, à la fin desquels ils se tiendraient devant le roi. |

Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: |

Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed–nego. |
et le prince des eunuques leur donna des noms : à Daniel il donna [le nom de] Belteshatsar, et à Hanania celui de Shadrac, et à Mishaël celui de Méshac, et à Azaria celui d'Abed-Nego. |

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. |
Et Daniel arrêta dans son cœur qu'il ne se souillerait point par les mets délicats du roi et par le vin qu'il buvait ; et il demanda au prince des eunuques [de lui permettre] de ne pas se souiller. |

And Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not pollute himself with the king's delicate food, nor with the wine which he drank; and he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not have to pollute himself. |
Y Daniel propuso en su corazón no contaminarse con la porción de la comida del rey, ni con el vino que él bebía; pidió, por tanto, al jefe de los eunucos que no se le obligase a contaminarse. |

Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. |
Et Dieu fit trouver à Daniel faveur et grâce auprès du prince des eunuques. |

And God granted Daniel favour and mercy before the prince of the eunuchs. |
Y puso Dios a Daniel en gracia y en buena voluntad con el jefe de los eunucos; |

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king. |
Et le prince des eunuques dit à Daniel : Je crains le roi mon seigneur, qui a prescrit votre nourriture et votre boisson ; car pourquoi verrait-il vos visages plus tristes que ceux des jeunes gens de votre âge ? Et vous exposeriez ma tête auprès du roi. |

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king who hath appointed your food and your drink; for why should he see your faces worse liking than the youths who are of your age? and ye would endanger my head with the king. |
y dijo el jefe de los eunucos a Daniel: Temo a mi señor el rey, que señaló vuestra comida y vuestra bebida; pues luego que él vea vuestros rostros más pálidos que los de los muchachos que son semejantes a vosotros, condenaréis para con el rey mi cabeza. |

Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, |

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. |
Éprouve, je te prie, tes serviteurs dix jours, et qu'on nous donne des légumes à manger, et de l'eau à boire ; |

et on regardera, en ta présence, nos visages et le visage des jeunes gens qui mangent les mets délicats du roi ; et tu agiras avec tes serviteurs d'après ce que tu verras. |

So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. |

And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat. |
et, au bout de dix jours, leurs visages avaient meilleure apparence et étaient plus grasc que ceux de tous les jeunes gens qui mangeaient les mets délicats du roi. |

Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse. |

As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. |
Et à ces jeunes gens, aux quatre, Dieu donna de la science et de l'instruction dans toutes les lettres et dans toute la sagesse ; et Daniel avait de l'intelligence en toute vision et dans les songes. |

And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. |
et le roi parla avec eux, et entre eux tous il n'en fut trouvé aucun comme Daniel, Hanania, Mishaël et Azaria ; et ils se tinrent devant le roi. |

And the king spoke with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: and they stood before the king. |
Y el rey habló con ellos, y no fueron hallados entre todos ellos otros como Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías; así, pues, estuvieron delante del rey. |

And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. |
Et dans toutes les choses qui réclamaient de la sagesse et de l'intelligenced, au sujet desquelles le roi les interrogea, il les trouva dix fois supérieurs à tous les devinse [et] enchanteurs qui étaient dans tout son royaume. |

And in all matters of judicious wisdom, as to which the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the scribes and magicians that were in all his realm. |
En todo asunto de sabiduría e inteligencia que el rey les consultó, los halló diez veces mejores que todos los magos y astrólogos que había en todo su reino. |
