2 Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations. Écoutez, écouteza mon discours, et cela tiendra lieu de vos consolations. Hear attentively my speech, and let this replace your consolations. Oíd atentamente mi palabra,
Y sea esto el consuelo que me deis.
3 Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on. Supportez-moi, et moi je parlerai, et après mes paroles, moque-toi ! Suffer me and I will speak; and after I have spoken, mock on! Toleradme, y yo hablaré;
Y después que haya hablado, escarneced.
4 As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled? Ma plainte s'adresse-t-elle à un homme ? Et pourquoi mon esprit ne serait-il pas à bout de patience ? As for me, is my complaint to a man? or wherefore should not my spirit be impatient? ¿Acaso me quejo yo de algún hombre?
¿Y por qué no se ha de angustiar mi espíritu?
5 Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth. Tournez-vous vers moi, et soyez étonnés, et mettez la main sur la bouche. Mark me, and be astonished, and lay the hand upon the mouth. Miradme, y espantaos,

7 Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power? Pourquoi les méchants vivent-ils, deviennent-ils âgés, et croissent-ils même en force ? Wherefore do the wicked live, grow old, yea, become mighty in power? ¿Por qué viven los impíos,

Porque no queremos el conocimiento de tus caminos.
15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him? Qu'est-ce que le Tout-puissant pour que nous le servions, et que nous profitera-t-il de nous adresser à lui ? 16 Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me. Voici, leur bonheur n'est pas dans leur main. Loin de moi le conseil des méchants ! Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked be far from me! He aquí que su bien no está en mano de ellos;
El consejo de los impíos lejos esté de mí.
17 How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger. ✱ Combien de fois la lampe des méchants s'éteint-elle, et leur calamité vient-elle sur eux, [et] leur distribue-t-Il des douleursb dans sa colère, How often is the lamp of the wicked put out, and cometh their calamity upon them? Doth he distribute sorrows to them in his anger? ¡Oh, cuántas veces la lámpara de los impíos es apagada,
Y viene sobre ellos su quebranto,
Y Dios en su ira les reparte dolores!
18 They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away. [Et] sont-ils comme la paille devant le vent, et comme la balle chassée par la tempête ? Do they become as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away? Serán como la paja delante del viento,
Y como el tamo que arrebata el torbellino.
19 God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it. †Dieu réserve à sesc fils [la punition de] sa méchanceté : il la lui rend, et il le saura ; +God layeth up the punishment of his iniquity for his children; he rewardeth him, and he shall know it : Dios guardará para los hijos de ellos su violencia;
Le dará su pago, para que conozca.
20 His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty. Ses yeux verront sa calamité, et il boira de la fureur du Tout-puissant. His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the fury of the Almighty. Verán sus ojos su quebranto,
Y beberá de la ira del Todopoderoso.
21 For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst? Car quel plaisir [a-t-il] à sa maison après lui, quand le nombre de ses mois est tranché ? For what pleasure should he have in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off? Porque ¿qué deleite tendrá él de su casa después de sí,

22 Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high. Est-ce à ∗Dieu qu'on enseignera la connaissance, quand c'est lui qui juge ceux qui sont haut élevés ? Can any teach *God knowledge? And he it is that judgeth those that are high. ¿Enseñará alguien a Dios sabiduría,

23 One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. L'un meurt en pleine vigueur, entièrement tranquille et à l'aise ; One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet; Este morirá en el vigor de su hermosura, todo quieto y pacífico;
24 His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow. Ses flancs sont garnis de graissed, et la moelle de ses os est abreuvée. His sides are full of fat, and the marrow of his bones is moistened; Sus vasijas estarán llenas de leche,
Y sus huesos serán regados de tuétano.
25 And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure. Et l'autre meurt dans l'amertume de son âme et n'a jamais goûtée le bonheur. And another dieth in bitterness of soul, and hath not tasted good: Y este otro morirá en amargura de ánimo,
Y sin haber comido jamás con gusto.
26 They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them. Ils gisent ensemble sur la poussière, et les vers les couvrent. Together they lie down in the dust, and the worms cover them. Igualmente yacerán ellos en el polvo,
Y gusanos los cubrirán.
27 Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me. ✱ Voici, je connais vos pensées, et vos plans contre moi pour me faire violence. Lo, I know your thoughts, and the devices ye wrongfully imagine against me. He aquí, yo conozco vuestros pensamientos,
Y las imaginaciones que contra mí forjáis.
28 For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked? Car vous dites : Où est la maison du noble, et où la tente des demeures des méchants ? For ye say, Where is the house of the noble? and where the tent of the dwellings of the wicked? Porque decís: ¿Qué hay de la casa del príncipe,
Y qué de la tienda de las moradas de los impíos?
29 Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens, Ne l'avez-vous pas demandé à ceux qui passent par le chemin ? Et n'avez-vous pas reconnu ce qui les distingue : Have ye not asked the wayfarers? and do ye not regard their tokens: ¿No habéis preguntado a los que pasan por los caminos,
Y no habéis conocido su respuesta,
30 That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. Que le méchant est épargné pour le jour de la calamité, qu'ils sont emmenés au jour de la fureur ? That the wicked is reserved for the day of calamity? They are led forth to the day of wrath. Que el malo es preservado en el día de la destrucción?
Guardado será en el día de la ira.
31 Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done? Qui lui dira en face sa voie ? et ce qu'il a fait, qui le lui rendra ? Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done? ¿Quién le denunciará en su cara su camino?
Y de lo que él hizo, ¿quién le dará el pago?
32 Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb. Il sera conduit dans un sépulcre, et sur le tertre il veillera. Yet is he carried to the graves, and watch is kept over the tomb. Porque llevado será a los sepulcros,
Y sobre su túmulo estarán velando.
33 The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him. Les mottes de la vallée lui sont douces ; et après lui tout homme suit à la file, et ceux qui l'ont précédé sont sans nombre. The clods of the valley are sweet unto him; and every man followeth suit after him, as there were innumerable before him. Los terrones del valle le serán dulces;
Tras de él será llevado todo hombre,
Y antes de él han ido innumerables.
34 How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood? Et comment me consolez-vous avec de vaines [consolations] ? Vos réponses restent perfides. How then comfort ye me in vain? Your answers remain perfidious. ¿Cómo, pues, me consoláis en vano,
Viniendo a parar vuestras respuestas en falacia?
