20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan–aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian. And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebecca as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian. y era Isaac de cuarenta años cuando tomó por mujer a Rebeca, hija de Betuel arameo de Padan-aram, hermana de Labán arameo.
21 And Isaac intreated the Lord for his wife, because she was barren: and the Lord was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren; and Jehovah was entreated of him, and Rebecca his wife conceived.
22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the Lord. Et les enfants s'entrepoussaient dans son sein ; et elle dit : S'il en est ainsi, pourquoi suis-je là ? Et elle alla consulter l'Éternel. And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of Jehovah. Y los hijos luchaban dentro de ella; y dijo: Si es así, ¿para qué vivo yo? Y fue a consultar a Jehová;
23 And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. And Jehovah said to her, Two nations are in thy womb, And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels; And one people shall be stronger than the other people, And the elder shall serve the younger. y le respondió Jehová:
Dos naciones hay en tu seno,
Y dos pueblos serán divididos desde tus entrañas;
24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.
25 And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. And the first came out red--all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.
26 And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them. And after that came his brother out; and his hand took hold of Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when they were born.
27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. And the boys grew, and Esau became a man skilled in hunting, a man of the field; and Jacob was a homely man, dwelling in tents.
28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. And Isaac loved Esau, because venison was to his taste; and Rebecca loved Jacob.
29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: Et Jacob cuisait un potage ; et Ésaü arriva des champs, et il était las. And Jacob had cooked a dish; and Esau came from the field, and he was faint.
30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with the red--the red thing there, for I am faint.
31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. Et Jacob dit : Vends-moi aujourd'hui ton droit d'aînesse. And Jacob said, Sell me now thy birthright.
32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Esau said, Behold, I am going to die, and of what use can the birthright be to me? Entonces dijo Esaú: He aquí yo me voy a morir; ¿para qué, pues, me servirá la primogenitura?
33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. And Jacob said, Swear unto me now. And he swore unto him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.
34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. And Jacob gave Esau bread and the dish of lentils; and he ate and drank, and rose up and went away. Thus Esau despised the birthright.
