Así no conviene al necio la honra.
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come. Comme le moineau qui va çà et là, et l'hirondelle qui vole, ainsi la malédiction sans cause n'arrivera point. As the sparrow for flitting about, as the swallow for flying, so a curse undeserved shall not come. Como el gorrión en su vagar, y como la golondrina en su vuelo,
Así la maldición nunca vendrá sin causa.

Para que no seas tú también como él.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit. Réponds au sot selon sa folie, de peur qu'il ne soit sage à ses propres yeux. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes. Responde al necio como merece su necedad,
Para que no se estime sabio en su propia opinión.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage. Celui qui envoie des messages par la main d'un sot, se coupe les pieds [et] boit l'injusticea. Así es el proverbio en la boca del necio.
8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool. Celui qui donne de la gloire à un sot, c'est comme un sachet de pierres précieuses dans un tas de pierresb. As a bag of gems in a stoneheap, so is he that giveth honour to a fool. Como quien liga la piedra en la honda,

9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools. Une épine qui entre dans la main d'un homme ivre, tel est un proverbe dans la bouche des sots. 10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors. Como arquero que a todos hiere,

Así es el necio que repite su necedad.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him. As-tu vu un homme sage à ses propres yeux ? Il y a plus d'espoir pour un sot que pour lui. Más esperanza hay del necio que de él.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. Le paresseux dit : Il y a un [lion] rugissant sur le chemin, un lion dans les rues. The sluggard saith, There is a fierce lion in the way; a lion is in the midst of the streets! Dice el perezoso: El león está en el camino;
El león está en las calles.
14 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed. La porte tourne sur ses gonds, et le paresseux sur son lit. As the door turneth upon its hinges, so the sluggard upon his bed. Como la puerta gira sobre sus quicios,
Así el perezoso se vuelve en su cama.
15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth. Le paresseux enfonce sa main dans le plat, il est las de la ramener à sa bouche. 16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason. Le paresseux est plus sage à ses yeux que sept [hommes] qui répondent avec bon sens. A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men that answer discreetly. En su propia opinión el perezoso es más sabio
Que siete que sepan aconsejar.
17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears. 18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death, Comme un fou qui jette des brandons, des flèches, et la mort, As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death, Como el que enloquece, y echa llamas
Y saetas y muerte,
19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport? ainsi est l'homme qui trompe son prochain, et qui dit : N'était-ce pas pour plaisanter ? so is a man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am I not in sport? Tal es el hombre que engaña a su amigo,
Y dice: Ciertamente lo hice por broma.
20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. Faute de bois, le feu s'éteint ; et, quand il n'y a plus de rapporteurs, la querelle s'apaise. Y donde no hay chismoso, cesa la contienda.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. Du charbon sur le brasier et du bois sur le feu, ainsi est l'homme querelleur pour échauffer les disputes. As coals for hot coals, and wood for fire, so is a contentious man to inflame strife. El carbón para brasas, y la leña para el fuego;
Y el hombre rencilloso para encender contienda.
22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. Las palabras del chismoso son como bocados suaves,

23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross. Les lèvres brûlantes et le cœur mauvais sont comme de la litharge d'argent appliquée sur un vase de terre. Son los labios lisonjeros y el corazón malo.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him; Celui qui hait se déguise par ses lèvres ; mais au dedans de lui il nourrite la fraude. He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him: El que odia disimula con sus labios;
Mas en su interior maquina engaño.
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. Quand il rend sa voix gracieuse, ne le crois point, car il y a sept abominations dans son cœur. when his voice is gracious, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart. Cuando hablare amigablemente, no le creas;
Porque siete abominaciones hay en su corazón.
26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation. La haine se cache-t-elle sous la dissimulation, sa méchanceté sera découverte dans la congrégation. Though his hatred is covered by dissimulation, his wickedness shall be made manifest in the congregation. Aunque su odio se cubra con disimulo,
Su maldad será descubierta en la congregación.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him. Qui creuse une fosse y tombera, et la pierre retournera sur celui qui la roule. Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him. El que cava foso caerá en él;
Y al que revuelve la piedra, sobre él le volverá.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin. La langue fausse hait ceux qu'elle a écrasés, et la bouche flatteuse amènef la ruine. A lying tongue hateth those that are injured by it, and a flattering mouth worketh ruin. La lengua falsa atormenta al que ha lastimado,
Y la boca lisonjera hace resbalar.
