(And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,) |

I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. |
Je suis Juif, né à Tarse de Cilicie, mais élevé dans cette ville-ci, [et] instruit aux pieds de Gamaliel selon l'exactitude de la loi de nos pères, étant zélé pour Dieu, comme vous l'êtes tous aujourd'hui ; |

And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. |

As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished. |
comme le souverain sacrificateur même m'en est témoin, et tout le corps des anciens, desquels aussi ayant reçu des lettres pour les frères, j'allais à Damas, afin d'amener liés à Jérusalem ceux aussi qui se trouvaient là, pour qu'ils fussent punis. |

And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me. |

And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? |

And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. |

And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me. |

But they that were with me beheld the light, and were filled with fear , but heard not the voice of him that was speaking to me. |

And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do. |
Et je dis : Que dois-je faire, Seigneur ? Et le Seigneur me dit : Lève-toi et va à Damas, et là on te parlera de toutes les choses qu'il t'est ordonné de faire. |
Yo dije: ¿Qué debo hacer, Señor? Y el Señor me dijo: Levántate y ve a Damasco; allí te será dicho todo cuanto está ordenado que hagas. |
And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said to me, Rise up, and go to Damascus, and there it shall be told thee of all things which it is appointed thee to do. |

And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus. |
Et comme je n'y voyais pas, à cause de la gloire de cette lumière, j'arrivai à Damas, ceux qui étaient avec moi me conduisant par la main. |

And as I could not see, through the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came to Damascus. |

And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, |

Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him. |
venant vers moi et se tenant là, me dit : Saul, frère, recouvre la vue. Et sur l'heure, levant les yeux, moi je le vis. |
vino a verme y, acercándose a mí, me dijo: Hermano Saulo, recupera la vista; y yo en aquella misma hora recobré la vista y lo vi. |
coming to me and standing by me, said to me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And *I*, in the same hour, received my sight and saw him. |

And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. |
Et il dit : Le Dieu de nos pères t'a choisi d'avance pour connaître sa volonté, et pour voir le Juste, et entendre une voix de sa bouche ; |

And he said, The God of our fathers has chosen thee beforehand to know his will, and to see the just one, and to hear a voice out of his mouth; |

For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. |

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. |

And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; |

And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me. |

and saw him saying to me, Make haste and go quickly out of Jerusalem, for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me. |

And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee: |

And *I* said, Lord, they themselves know that *I* was imprisoning and beating in every synagogue those that believe on thee; |

And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him. |

And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles. |

And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live. |
Et ils l'écoutèrent jusqu'à ce mot, et ils élevèrent leur voix, disant : Ôte de la terre un pareil homme, car il n'aurait pas dû vivre. |
Le escucharon hasta esta palabra; entonces levantaron la voz, diciendo: ¡Quita de la tierra a ese individuo, porque no se le debe permitir que viva! |
And they heard him until this word, and lifted up their voice, saying, Away with such a one as that from the earth, for it was not fit he should live. |

And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air, |

The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him. |
le chiliarque donna l'ordre de le conduire à la forteresse, disant qu'on le mît à la question par le fouet, afin d'apprendre pour quel sujet ils criaient ainsi contre lui. |

the chiliarch commanded him to be brought into the fortress, saying that he should be examined by scourging, that he might ascertain for what cause they cried thus against him. |

And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned? |
Mais quand ils l'eurent fait étendre avec les courroies, Paul dit au centurion qui était près [de lui] : Vous est-il permis de fouetter un homme qui est Romain et qui n'est pas condamné ? |

But as they stretched him forward with the thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood by , Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman and uncondemned? |

When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman. |
Et quand le centurion entendit cela, il s'en alla faire son rapport au chiliarque, disant : Que vas-tu faire ? car cet homme est Romain. |
Al oírlo el centurión, fue al comandante y se lo advirtió, diciendo: ¿Qué vas a hacer? Porque este hombre es romano. |
And the centurion, having heard it, went and reported it to the chiliarch, saying, What art thou going to do? for this man is a Roman. |
Cuando el centurión oyó esto, fue y dio aviso al tribuno, diciendo: ¿Qué vas a hacer? Porque este hombre es ciudadano romano. |

Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea. |
Et le chiliarque s'approchant dit à Paul : Dis-moi, es-tu Romain ? Et il dit : Oui. |
Se acercó el comandante, y le preguntó: Dime, ¿eres tú romano? |
And the chiliarch coming up said to him, Tell me, Art *thou* a Roman? And he said, Yes. |
Vino el tribuno y le dijo: Dime, ¿eres tú ciudadano romano? Él dijo: Sí. |

And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born. |
Et le chiliarque reprit : Moi, j'ai acquis cette bourgeoisiec pour une grande somme. Et Paul dit : Mais moi, je l'ai par naissance. |
Él contestó: Sí. Respondió el comandante: Yo con gran suma adquirí este derecho de ciudadanía. A lo que Pablo dijo: Pero yo nací con ella. |
And the chiliarch answered, *I*, for a great sum, bought this citizenship. And Paul said, But *I* was also free born. |
Respondió el tribuno: Yo con una gran suma adquirí esta ciudadanía. Entonces Pablo dijo: Pero yo lo soy de nacimiento. |

Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. |
Aussitôt donc, ceux qui allaient le mettre à la question se retirèrent de lui ; et le chiliarque aussi eut peur, sachant qu'il était Romain, et parce qu'il l'avait fait lier. |
Al instante los que iban a cuestionarlo se apartaron de él; también el comandante tuvo temor, al saber que era romano, y que le había atado. |
Immediately therefore those who were going to examine him left him, and the chiliarch also was afraid when he ascertained that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. |
Así que, luego se apartaron de él los que le iban a dar tormento; y aun el tribuno, al saber que era ciudadano romano, también tuvo temor por haberle atado. |

On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them. |
Mais le lendemain, voulant savoir exactement ce pour quoi il était accusé par les Juifs, il le fit délier et ordonna que les principaux sacrificateurs et tout le sanhédrin s'assemblassent ; et ayant fait descendre Paul, il le présenta devant eux. |
Al día siguiente, queriendo saber con certeza de qué le acusaban los judíos, lo soltó y mandó reunirse a los jefes de los sacerdotes y a todo el Sanedrín; y trayendo a Pablo, lo presentó ante ellos. |
And on the morrow, desirous to know the certainty of the matter why he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him, and commanded the chief priests and all the council to meet, and having brought Paul down set him before them. |
Al día siguiente, queriendo saber de cierto la causa por la cual le acusaban los judíos, le soltó de las cadenas, y mandó venir a los principales sacerdotes y a todo el concilio, y sacando a Pablo, le presentó ante ellos. |
