And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, |

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. |

But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. |

But when some were hardened and disbelieved, speaking evil of the way before the multitude, he left them and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. |

And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. |

And this took place for two years, so that all that inhabited Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks. |

And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: |

So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. |

so that even napkins or aprons were brought from his body and put upon the sick, and the diseases left them, and the wicked spirits went out. |

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. |
Mais quelques-uns aussi des Juifs exorcistes qui couraient çà et là, essayèrent d'invoquerd le nom du seigneur Jésus sur ceux qui avaient des esprits malins, disant : Je vous adjure par Jésus que Paul prêche. |

And certain of the Jewish exorcists also, who went about, took in hand to call upon those who had wicked spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, I adjure you by Jesus, whom Paul preaches. |

And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. |

And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? |

And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. |
Et l'homme en qui était l'esprit malin, s'élança sur eux, et, s'étant rendu maître des deux, usa de violence contre eux, de sorte qu'ils s'enfuirent de cette maison, nus et blessés. |

And the man in whom the wicked spirit was leaped upon them, and having mastered both, prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. |

And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. |
Et cela vint à la connaissance de tous ceux qui demeuraient à Éphèse, Juifs et Grecs ; et ils furent tous saisis de crainte, et le nom du seigneur Jésus était magnifié. |
Esto fue conocido por todos los que habitaban en Éfeso, tanto judíos como griegos; y el temor se apoderó de todos ellos; y el nombre del Señor Jesús fue engrandecido. |
And this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who inhabited Ephesus, and fear fell upon all of them, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. |
Y esto fue notorio a todos los que habitaban en Éfeso, así judíos como griegos; y tuvieron temor todos ellos, y era magnificado el nombre del Señor Jesús. |

And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. |

Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. |
Plusieurs aussi de ceux qui s'étaient adonnés à des pratiques curieuses, apportèrent leurs livres et les brûlèrent devant tous ; et ils en supputèrent le prix, et ils trouvèrent [qu'il se montait à] cinquante mille pièces d'argent. |
Y muchos de los que habían practicado artes mágicas, reunieron sus libros y los quemaron delante de todos; calcularon su precio y hallaron que llegaba a cincuenta mil monedas de plata. |
And many of those that practised curious arts brought their books of charms and burnt them before all. And they reckoned up the prices of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. |
Asimismo muchos de los que habían practicado la magia trajeron los libros y los quemaron delante de todos; y hecha la cuenta de su precio, hallaron que era cincuenta mil piezas de plata. |

So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed. |
C'est avec une telle puissance que la parole du Seigneur croissait et montrait sa force. |
¡Con tal poder crecía y prevalecía la palabra del Señor! |
Thus with might the word of the Lord increased and prevailed. |

After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. |
Or, après que ces choses se furent accomplies, Paul se proposa dans son esprit de passer par la Macédoine et par l'Achaïe, et d'aller à Jérusalem, disant : Après que j'aurai été là, il faut que je voie Rome aussi. |

And when these things were fulfilled, Paul purposed in his spirit to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia, saying, After I have been there I must see Rome also. |

So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season. |

And the same time there arose no small stir about that way. |

For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; |
car un certain homme nommé Démétrius, qui travaillait en argenterie et faisait des temples de Diane en argent, procurait un grand profit aux artisans ; |
Porque un platero llamado Demetrio, que fabricaba de plata templetes de Diana, obtenía grandes ganancias para los artesanos; |
For a certain man by name Demetrius, a silver-beater, making silver temples of Artemis, brought no small gain to the artisans; |

Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth. |

whom having brought together, and those who wrought in such things, he said, Men, ye know that our well-living arises from this work, |

Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands: |
et vous voyez et apprenez que non seulement à Éphèse, mais presque par toute l'Asie, ce Paul, usant de persuasion, a détourné une grande foule, disant que ceux-là ne sont pas des dieux, qui sont faits de main. |
y veis y oís que no solo en Éfeso, sino también por casi toda Asia, este Pablo aparta a mucha gente con sus persuasiones, diciendo que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos. |
and ye see and hear that this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great crowd, not only of Ephesus, but almost of all Asia, saying that they are no gods which are made with hands. |
pero veis y oís que este Pablo, no solamente en Éfeso, sino en casi toda Asia, ha apartado a muchas gentes con persuasión, diciendo que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos. |

So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth. |
Et non seulement il y a du danger pour nous que cette partie ne tombe en discrédit, mais aussi que le temple de la grande déesse Diane ne soit plus rien estimé, et qu'il n'arrive que sa majesté, laquelle l'Asie entière et la terre habitée révère, soit anéantie. |
Y no solo hay peligro de que nuestra industria venga a ser desacreditada, sino que también el templo de la gran diosa Diana sea despreciado, y sea destruida la magnificencia de aquella a quien toda Asia y el mundo adora. |
Now not only there is danger for us that our business come into discredit, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis be counted for nothing, and that her greatness should be destroyed whom the whole of Asia and the world reveres. |
Y no solamente hay peligro de que este nuestro negocio venga a desacreditarse, sino también que el templo de la gran diosa Diana sea estimado en nada, y comience a ser destruida la majestad de aquella a quien venera toda Asia, y el mundo entero. |

And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. |
Et quand ils eurent entendu [ces choses], ils furent remplis de colère, et s'écriaient, disant : Grande est la Diane des Éphésiens ! |

And having heard this , and being filled with rage, they cried out, saying, Great is Artemis of the Ephesians. |

And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre. |
Et [toute] la ville fut remplie de confusion ; et, d'un commun accord, ils se précipitèrent dans le théâtre, entraînant avec eux Gaïus et Aristarque, Macédoniens, compagnons de voyage de Paul. |
La ciudad se llenó de confusión, y de común acuerdo se precipitaron al teatro, arrastrando consigo a Gayo y a Aristarco, macedonios, compañeros de viaje de Pablo. |
And the whole city was filled with confusion, and they rushed with one accord to the theatre, having seized and carried off with them Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, fellow-travellers of Paul. |
Y la ciudad se llenó de confusión, y a una se lanzaron al teatro, arrebatando a Gayo y a Aristarco, macedonios, compañeros de Pablo. |

And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not. |
Et comme Paul voulait entrer vers le peuple, les disciples ne le lui permirent pas ; |

And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre. |

and some of the Asiarchs also, who were his friends, sent to him and urged him not to throw himself into the theatre. |

Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together. |

Different persons therefore cried out some different thing; for the assembly was tumultuous, and the most did not know for what cause they had come together. |

And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people. |
Et ils tirèrent Alexandre hors de la foule, les Juifs le poussant en avant ; et Alexandre, faisant signe de la main, voulait présenter une apologie au peuple. |

But from among the crowd they put forward Alexander, the Jews pushing him forward. And Alexander, beckoning with his hand, would have made a defence to the people. |

But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. |

But, recognising that he was a Jew, there was one cry from all, shouting for about two hours, Great is Artemis of the Ephesians. |

And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter? |
Mais le secrétaire [de la ville], ayant apaisé la multitude, dit : Hommes éphésiens, qui est donc l'homme qui ne sache pas que la ville des Éphésiens est consacrée à la garde du temple de la grande Diane, et à l'[image] tombée du cielf ? |

And the townclerk, having quieted the crowd, said, Ephesians, what man is there then who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple-keeper of Artemis the great, and of the image which fell down from heaven? |

Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly. |
Ces choses donc étant incontestables, il convient que vous vous teniez tranquilles et que vous ne fassiez rien précipitamment ; |
Siendo indiscutibles estas cosas, debéis calmaros y no hacer nada precipitadamente. |
These things therefore being undeniable, it is necessary that ye should be calm and do nothing headlong. |

For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess. |

For ye have brought these men, who are neither temple-plunderers, nor speak injuriously of your goddess. |

Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another. |
