And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him. |

And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? |

When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; |

When thou art invited by any one to a wedding, do not lay thyself down in the first place at table, lest perhaps a more honourable than thou be invited by him, |

And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. |

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. |
Mais, quand tu seras convié, va et assieds-toi à la dernière place, afin que, quand celui qui t'a convié viendra, il te dise : Ami, monte plus haut. Alors tu auras de la gloire devant tous ceux qui seront à table avec toi. |

But when thou hast been invited, go and put thyself down in the last place, that when he who has invited thee comes, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have honour before all that are lying at table with thee; |

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. |

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. |
Et il dit aussi à celui qui l'avait convié : Quand tu fais un dîner ou un souper, n'appelle pas tes amis, ni tes frères, ni tes parents, ni de riches voisins ; de peur qu'eux aussi ne te convient à leur tour, et que la pareille ne te soit rendue. |
Dijo también al que le había invitado: Cuando hagas una comida o una cena, no llames a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a vecinos ricos; no sea que ellos a su vez también te inviten, y esa sea tu recompensa. |

But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: |

And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. |

And one of those that were lying at table with them , hearing these things, said to him, Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. |

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: |

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. |
Et à l'heure du souper, il envoya son esclave dire aux conviés : Venez, car déjà tout est prêt. |
A la hora de la cena envió a su siervo a decir a los invitados: Venid, que ya está preparado. |
And he sent his bondman at the hour of supper to say to those who were invited, Come, for already all things are ready. |

And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. |
Et ils commencèrent tous unanimement à s'excuser. Le premier lui dit : J'ai acheté un champ, et il faut nécessairement que je m'en aille et que je le voie ; je te prie, tiens-moi pour excusé. |
Todos unánimemente comenzaron a excusarse. El primero le dijo: He comprado un campo y es necesario que vaya a verlo; te ruego que me excuses. |
And all began, without exception, to excuse themselves. The first said to him, I have bought land, and I must go out and see it; I pray thee hold me for excused. |

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. |

So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. |
Et l'esclave, s'en étant retourné, rapporta ces choses à son maître. Alors le maître de la maison, en colère, dit à son esclave : Va-t'en promptement dans les rues et dans les ruelles de la ville, et amène ici les pauvres, et les estropiés, et les aveugles, et les boiteux. |
Al volver el siervo, hizo saber estas cosas a su señor. Entonces el amo de casa se irritó y dijo a su siervo: Sal ahora mismo por las plazas y las calles de la ciudad, y trae aquí a pobres, mancos, ciegos y cojos. |
And the bondman came up and brought back word of these things to his lord. Then the master of the house, in anger, said to his bondman, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring here the poor and crippled and lame and blind. |

And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. |

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. |

For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper. |

And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, |

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. |

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? |
Car quel est celui d'entre vous qui, voulant bâtir une tour, ne s'asseye premièrement et ne calcule la dépense, [pour voir] s'il a de quoi l'achever ? |

Or what king, going on his way to engage in war with another king, does not, sitting down first, take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him coming against him with twenty thousand? |

Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. |

Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? |
