And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother’s brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying, |

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh. |
Dites, je vous prie, aux oreilles de tous les hommesa de Sichem : Lequel est le meilleur pour vous, que soixante-dix hommes, tous fils de Jerubbaal, dominent sur vous, ou qu'un seul homme domine sur vous ? Et souvenez-vous que je suis votre os et votre chair. |

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the citizens of Shechem, Which is better for you, that seventy persons, all sons of Jerubbaal, rule over you, or that one man rule over you? And remember that I am your bone and your flesh. |

And his mother’s brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother. |
Et les frères de sa mère dirent de lui toutes ces paroles aux oreilles de tous les hommes de Sichem ; et leur cœur fut incliné vers Abimélec, car ils dirent : Il est notre frère. |

And his mother's brethren spoke of him in the ears of all the citizens of Shechem all these words. And their heart inclined after Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother. |
Y hablaron por él los hermanos de su madre en oídos de todos los de Siquem todas estas palabras; y el corazón de ellos se inclinó a favor de Abimelec, porque decían: Nuestro hermano es. |

And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal–berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him. |
Et ils lui donnèrent soixante-dix [pièces] d'argent tirées de la maison de Baal-Berith ; et Abimélec loua avec elles des hommes légers et téméraires, et ils le suivirent. |

And they gave him seventy pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-Berith, and Abimelech hired with them vain and wanton men, and they followed him. |

And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself. |
Et il vint à la maison de son père, à Ophra, et tua sur une seule pierre ses frères, les fils de Jerubbaal, soixante-dix hommes ; mais Jotham, le plus jeune fils de Jerubbaal, demeura de reste, car il s'était caché. |

And he came to his father's house, to Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, seventy persons upon one stone; but there remained Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal; for he had hid himself. |

And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem. |
Et tous les hommes de Sichem s'assemblèrent, et toute la maison de Millob, et ils allèrent, et établirent roi Abimélec, près du chêne du monumentc qui est à Sichem. |

And all the citizens of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went and made Abimelech king, by the memorial-oak that is in Shechem. |
Entonces se juntaron todos los de Siquem con toda la casa de Milo, y fueron y eligieron a Abimelec por rey, cerca de la llanura del pilar que estaba en Siquem. |

And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you. |
Et on le rapporta à Jotham. Et il s'en alla, et se tint sur le sommet de la montagne de Garizim ; et il éleva sa voix et cria, et leur dit : Écoutez-moi, hommes de Sichem, et Dieu vous écoutera ! |

And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon. |
Et l'épine dit aux arbres : Si vraiment vous voulez m'oindre roi sur vous, venez, mettez votre confiance en mon ombre ; sinon, un feu sortira de l'épine, et dévorera les cèdres du Liban. |

And the thorn-bush said to the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, come, put confidence in my shadow; but if not, fire shall come out of the thorn-bush and devour the cedars of Lebanon. |
Y la zarza respondió a los árboles: Si en verdad me elegís por rey sobre vosotros, venid, abrigaos bajo de mi sombra; y si no, salga fuego de la zarza y devore a los cedros del Líbano. |

Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands; |
— Et maintenant, si vous avez agi avec vérité et en intégritéd en établissant roi Abimélec, et si vous avez bien fait envers Jerubbaal et envers sa maison, et si vous lui avez fait selon les actes de ses mains ; |

Now therefore, if ye have dealt truly and sincerely in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and if ye have done to him according to the deserving of his hands; |

But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech. |

And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother. |

Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech: |

That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren. |
afin que la violence commise sur les soixante-dix fils de Jerubbaal vînt [sur lui], et que leur sang fût mis sur Abimélec, leur frère, qui les avait tués, et sur les hommes de Sichem, qui avaient fortifié ses mains pour tuer ses frères. |

that the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, who slew them, and upon the citizens of Shechem, who had strengthened his hands to slay his brethren. |

And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech. |

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him? |

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is he not the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his overseer? Serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem! and why should *we* serve him? |

And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out. |
Oh ! que n'ai-je ce peuple sous ma main, et j'ôterais Abimélec ! Et il dit d'Abimélec : Augmente ton armée, et sors. |

And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee. |
Et il envoya astucieusementg des messagers à Abimélec, disant : Voici, Gaal, fils d'Ébed, et ses frères, sont venus à Sichem ; et voici, ils fermenth la ville contre toi. |

and he sent messengers to Abimelech craftily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren are come to Shechem, and behold, they shut up the city against thee; |
y envió secretamente mensajeros a Abimelec, diciendo: He aquí que Gaal hijo de Ebed y sus hermanos han venido a Siquem, y he aquí que están sublevando la ciudad contra ti. |

Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field: |
Et maintenant, lève-toi de nuit, toi et le peuple qui est avec toi, et mets-toi en embuscade dans la campagne. |

and now, rise up by night, thou and the people that are with thee, and lie in ambush in the fields. |
Levántate, pues, ahora de noche, tú y el pueblo que está contigo, y pon emboscadas en el campo. |

And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion. |
Et le matin, tu te lèveras de bonne heure, au lever du soleil, et tu fondras sur la ville ; et voici, Gaali et le peuple qui est avec lui sortiront contre toi, et tu lui feras selon ce que ta main rencontrera. |

And it shall be in the morning when the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and fall upon the city; and behold, he and the people that is with him shall come out against thee, and thou shalt do with him as thou shalt find occasion. |

And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies. |

And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait. |
Et Gaal fils d'Ébed, sortit, et se tint à l'entrée de la porte de la ville ; et Abimélec et le peuple qui était avec lui se levèrent de l'embuscade. |

And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city. Then Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, out of the ambush. |
Y Gaal hijo de Ebed salió, y se puso a la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad; y Abimelec y todo el pueblo que con él estaba, se levantaron de la emboscada. |

And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men. |
Et Gaal vit le peuple, et il dit à Zebul : Voici du peuple qui descend du sommet des montagnes. Et Zebul lui dit : C'est l'ombre des montagnes, que tu vois comme des hommes. |

And Gaal saw the people, and said to Zebul, Behold, people are coming down from the tops of the mountains. And Zebul said to him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as men. |
Y viendo Gaal al pueblo, dijo a Zebul: He allí gente que desciende de las cumbres de los montes. Y Zebul le respondió: Tú ves la sombra de los montes como si fueran hombres. |

And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim. |
Et Gaal parla encore, et dit : Voici du peuple qui descend du haut du pays, et un corps vient par le chemin du chêne des pronostiqueurs. |

And Gaal spoke again, and said, Behold, people are coming down from the high part of the land, and one company is coming along by the way of the Magician's oak. |
Volvió Gaal a hablar, y dijo: He allí gente que desciende de en medio de la tierra, y una tropa viene por el camino de la encina de los adivinos. |

Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them. |
Et Zebul lui dit : Où est maintenant ta bouche, toi qui disais : Qui est Abimélec, que nous le servions ? N'est-ce pas là le peuple que tu as méprisé ? Sors maintenant, je te prie, et combats contre lui. |

Then said Zebul to him, Where is now thy mouth, thou that saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out now, I pray, and fight against them. |
Y Zebul le respondió: ¿Dónde está ahora tu boca con que decías: Quién es Abimelec para que le sirvamos? ¿No es este el pueblo que tenías en poco? Sal pues, ahora, y pelea con él. |

And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech. |

And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate. |
Et Abimélec le poursuivit, et il s'enfuit devant lui, et un grand nombre tombèrent tués jusqu'à l'entrée de la porte. |

Mas lo persiguió Abimelec, y Gaal huyó delante de él; y cayeron heridos muchos hasta la entrada de la puerta. |

And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem. |
Et Abimélec resta à Aruma ; et Zebul chassa Gaal et ses frères, de sorte qu'ils ne demeurèrent plus à Sichem. |

And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah. And Zebul drove out Gaal and his brethren, that they might not dwell in Shechem. |

And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them. |

Et Abimélec monta sur la montagne de Tsalmon, lui et tout le peuple qui était avec lui. Et Abimélec prit des haches avec lui et coupa une branche d'arbre, et l'enleva, et la mit sur son épaule, et dit au peuple qui était avec lui : Ce que vous m'avez vu faire, hâtez-vous, faites-le comme moi ! |

And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women. |
Et tout le peuple aussi coupa chacun sa branche ; et ils suivirent Abimélec, et mirent [les branches] contre le donjon, et ils brûlèrent par le feu le donjon sur eux. Et tous les hommes de la tour de Sichem moururent aussi, un millier d'hommes et de femmes. |

And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and they followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and burned the hold with fire upon them. And all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women. |
Y todo el pueblo cortó también cada uno su rama, y siguieron a Abimelec, y las pusieron junto a la fortaleza, y prendieron fuego con ellas a la fortaleza, de modo que todos los de la torre de Siquem murieron, como unos mil hombres y mujeres. |

But there was a strong tower in the midst of the city, and thither fled all the men and women, all the citizens of the city; and they shut it behind them, and went up to the roof of the tower. |
En medio de aquella ciudad había una torre fortificada, a la cual se retiraron todos los hombres y las mujeres, y todos los señores de la ciudad; y cerrando tras sí las puertas, se subieron al techo de la torre. |

And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire. |

Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A woman slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died. |
Et il appela en hâte le jeune homme qui portait ses armes, et lui dit : Tire ton épée et tue-moi, de peur qu'on ne dise de moi : Une femme l'a tué. Et son jeune homme le transperça, et il mourut. |

And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal. |
et tout le mal des hommes de Sichem, Dieu le fit retomber sur leurs têtes ; et la malédiction de Jotham, fils de Jerubbaal, vint sur eux. p |
