I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life. |
J'ai recherchéb en mon cœur de traiter ma chair avec du vin, tout en conduisant mon cœur par la sagesse, et de saisir la folie, jusqu'à ce que je visse quel serait, pour les fils des hommes, ce bien qu'ils feraient sous les cieux tous lesc jours de leur vie. |

I searched in my heart how to cherish my flesh with wine, while practising my heart with wisdom; and how to lay hold on folly, till I should see what was that good for the children of men which they should do under the heavens all the days of their life. |

I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me: |

I acquired servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of herds and flocks, above all that had been in Jerusalem before me. |

I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts. |
Je me suis aussi amassé de l'argent et de l'or, et les trésors des rois et des provinces ; je me suis procuré des chanteurs et des chanteuses, et les délices des fils des hommes, une femme et des concubines. |

So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. |

Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness. |

The wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all. |

Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity. |
Et j'ai dit en mon cœur : Le sort du foue m'atteint, moi aussi ; et pourquoi alors ai-je été si sage ? Et j'ai dit en mon cœur que cela aussi est vanité. |

For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool. |
Car jamais on ne se souviendra du sage, non plus que du foue, puisque déjà dans les jours qui viennent tout est oublié. Et comment le sage meurt-il comme le foue ? |

Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit. |

And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity. |
Et qui sait s'il sera un sage ou un sotf ? Et il sera maître de tout mon travail auquel j'ai travaillé et dans lequel j'ai été sage sous le soleil. Cela aussi est vanité. |

Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun. |

For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil. |
Car il y a tel homme qui a travaillé avec sagesse, et avec connaissance, et avec droitureh, et qui laisse [ce qu'il a acquis] à un homme qui n'y a pas travaillé, pour être son partage. Cela aussi est vanité et un grand mal. |

For there is a man whose labour hath been with wisdom, and with knowledge, and with skill, and who leaveth it to a man that hath not laboured therein, to be his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil. |
¡Que el hombre trabaje con sabiduría, y con ciencia y con rectitud, y que haya de dar su hacienda a hombre que nunca trabajó en ello! También es esto vanidad y mal grande. |

For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun? |
Car qu'est-ce que l'homme a de tout son travail, et de la poursuite de son cœur, dont il s'est tourmenté sous le soleil ? |

For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity. |
Car tous ses jours sont douleur, et son occupation est chagrin ; même la nuit son cœur ne repose pas. Cela aussi est vanité. |

There is nothing good for man, but that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God. |
No hay cosa mejor para el hombre sino que coma y beba, y que su alma se alegre en su trabajo. También he visto que esto es de la mano de Dios. |

For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit. |
Car à l'homme qui est bon devant lui, [Dieu] donne sagesse et connaissance et joie ; mais à celui qui pèche, il donne l'occupation de rassembler et d'amasser, pour donner à celui qui est bon devant Dieu. Cela aussi est vanité et poursuite du vent. |
